Definition of «slay queen»

This phrase is used to celebrate someone, usually a woman, who is doing something exceptionally well or looking very stylish. While 'slay' has been around for decades in Black and Queer communities, the full phrase 'slay queen' became a ubiquitous internet catchphrase for empowerment and aesthetic approval. It can be used sincerely to hype up a friend or ironically to mock over-the-top girlboss energy.
