Description

"Mansplain" is to explain something to someone, especially a woman, in a patronising way that assumes the listener is less knowledgeable than the speaker. The word criticises not merely an explanation but the speaker's condescending confidence and failure to recognise the other person's competence. It is common in feminist discussion, online arguments, and humorous complaints about socially awkward or overconfident men. Depending on context, it can be a serious accusation of sexist behaviour or a joking label for any needlessly smug explanation from a man.

Example

— I know how the microwave works; I own one. — Let me mansplain it using this seventeen-slide presentation. — Please remove the laser pointer from the soup.

The family barbecue became a full mansplain symposium when one uncle tried to explain grilling to the person who had been cooking professionally for twelve years.

My IDIOT older brother tried to mansplain why the Colt Ryland twin AU headcannon HEAD.CANNON. Is stupid because there’s no evidence to suggest they are even related. He think a headcannon is stupid because it’s not cannon
