- Description
-
"Rubber banding" is a gaming term used to describe a specific type of network latency where a player's character appears to jump back to a previous position. This happens when the client-side game and the server-side game disagree on the player's location, causing the character to snap back like a stretched rubber band being released. It is one of the most frustrating forms of lag because it makes movement unpredictable and gameplay nearly impossible. The term is used almost exclusively in multiplayer online environments to complain about poor server performance.
- Example
-
> Lag so bad I was rubber banding across the map for ten minutes.
> I can't play like this, the rubber banding is making me dizzy.
> Every time I try to run forward, the server rubber bands me back to the start.
